CSS 1.6 Linux Server Installation Tutorial (NoSteam)

      1) Getting started with HLDSUpdatetool
    First of all download hldsupdatetool from the Steam website. Make a dir called srcds_l, and save hldsupdatetool in that dir and run it.

mkdir srcds_l
cd srcds_l
wget http://www.steampowered.com/download/hldsupdatetool.bin
chmod +x hldsupdatetool.bin
./hldsupdatetool.bin
./steam

    If you have an uncompress error do this.

You must link uncompress to gunzip, so do this:

locate gunzip
/usr/bin/gunzip
ln -s /usr/bin/gunzip /usr/bin/uncompress
    NOTE: Your gunzip MIGHT be in /bin/gunzip

    The new version of HLDSUpdateTool will be downloaded now. You will be returned to the console after its done.

      2) Downloading the files
    We can start downloading the files. This can take a few hours depending on the connection the server uses.

./steam -command update -game "Counter-Strike Source" -dir .

Go get yourself a cup of coffee and watch a movie or something.

      3) Cracking the Server
    If you want to make a legit server jump to step 4

      3.2) Srcds Non-steam and Steam clients
     extract and put the files on you \bin directory (NOT \cstrike\bin), overwriting the existing ones. Then go to srcds_l/cstrike/cfg/server.cfg and insert sv_lan 1 on it, and them put +sv_lan 1 on your command line. (check next step)

NO Steam Engine

      4) Starting srcds
    First edit (or create) srcds_l/cstrike/cfg/server.cfg like you want it to be. Now we are ready to run the srcds.

./srcds_run -console -game cstrike +map de_dust -maxplayers 16 -autoupdate
    NOTE: if you are running a cracked non-steam and steam clients server dont forget to add +sv_lan 1 to this comand line. and press enter.
    Your srcds is now up and running.
